We know that the protection of electrical control panels is crucial, especially in equipment such as washing machines and smart toilets. In order to ensure that these control panels have good resistance to moisture and heat, potting glue is usually used for sealing protection.
In the protection of electrical control panels, the traditional potting materials used are mainly epoxy resin and silicone rubber. However, epoxy resin has the problems of high hardness, high internal stress, fragility and difficulty in repair; while silicone rubber has high water absorption, poor bonding performance, and high cost.
Compared with these traditional materials, polyurethane potting compound has been widely used in the field of electrical potting because the elastomer formed after curing has good mechanical properties, elasticity, moisture resistance, mildew resistance, flame retardancy and easy repair.
As a kind of electronic potting compound, the process of polyurethane two-component potting compound is to mix the two components in proportion and pour them into the control board, and after curing, a cured colloid is formed that fully covers the components and welding surfaces.
The sealed electronic products are isolated from the air, preventing the oxidation of the solder joints and extending the service life. At the same time, it prevents tip discharge in flammable and explosive environments, ensuring safety in use. This potting method is particularly suitable for control panels working in humid, vibrating and corrosive environments.
Characteristics of polyurethane potting compound:
Polyurethane potting compound is formed by mixing the main agent (polyol, called component A) and the curing agent (MDI-based isocyanate prepolymer, called component B) to form a protective layer through chemical reaction. This kind of potting compound can usually be cured at room temperature, and there may be a certain temperature increase during the curing process.
The characteristics of the protective layer of polyurethane potting compound are as follows:
1. The two components and their cured products are non-corrosive and low in volatility;
2. The potting compound layer has high bonding strength, which reduces the influence of internal stress on electrical components;
3. It has excellent air tightness and insulation, and has dustproof, waterproof, vibration-resistant and flame-retardant properties, which significantly improves the stability and reliability of the control panel;
4. The potting compound has strong adhesion, good bonding performance with metal and non-metal components, and is not easy to detach from the interface in a hot and humid environment;
5. The potting compound has moderate hardness and appropriate strength.
Application of polyurethane potting compound in household appliances:
Polyurethane potting compound, as a polyurethane-based material, has excellent mechanical properties, such as excellent wear resistance and shock resistance. At the same time, it maintains good dielectric properties. The potting of electronic components is usually carried out below 80°C to avoid high temperature damage to the components, while polyurethane potting compound can be used at room temperature and is easy to operate.
Therefore, polyurethane potting compound can be widely used in the potting of high-voltage insulating electronic components such as washing machine control boards, transportation control boards, capacitors or ignition coils. Its good mechanical properties overcome the hard and brittle defects of epoxy resin and extend its service lifetime.
