What is heat shrink tubing?
Heat shrink tubing, also known as heat shrink tube, heat shrink sleeve, etc., is an insulating sleeving with high-temperature shrinkage, soft flame retardant, and insulation and corrosion protection functions. Heat shrink tubing is composed of radiation multi-linked polymers. After being heated, it shrinks tightly to wrap the cable joints, thereby achieving the purpose of insulation, sealing and protection.
What are the excellent properties?
Heat shrink tubing is an excellent environmentally friendly flame retardant tubing. It uses high-quality polymers, which are scientifically proportioned and mechanically blended into polymers. After the product is formed, it is cross-linked and continuously expanded by electron accelerator radiation. It has the properties of high-temperature shrinkage, soft flame retardant, insulation and corrosion resistance. It is very soft and elastic. At the same time, it has the advantages of low shrinkage temperature and fast shrinkage. It is particularly suitable for the protection of temperature-sensitive components. It can also be widely used in the coating and insulation protection of wire processing, solder joint protection, coating of electronic components, insulation protection of resistors and capacitors, rust and corrosion prevention of metal products, wire marking or color marking, etc.
How to correctly select and use heat shrink tubing?
1. Prepare the materials. First, understand the size of the cable diameter, or calculate the corresponding diameter based on the length and width, and select a heat shrink tubing with a diameter slightly larger than the cable diameter.
2. Remove burrs and sharp corners on the cable to prevent the heat shrink tubing from piercing and causing cracking during the retraction process. Clean the oil and impurities on the cable connection part to keep it clean.
3. Calculate the length to be wrapped and cut the corresponding length of heat shrink tubing. When cutting the heat shrink tubing, the incision should be neat and smooth without burrs or cracks to avoid stress concentration caused by heating and shrinking, which spreads along the crack.
4. Put the heat shrink tubing on one end of the cable and move the heat shrink tubing to the appropriate position. For cables with bends, tidy up the heat shrink tubing at the bends to prevent wrinkles.
5. The heating tool is generally a hot air gun, oven or hair dryer. During the heating process, it should be heated in a single direction from left to right or from right to left, or from the middle to both ends to avoid air remaining in the heat shrink tube. After shrinking, the cable is tightly wrapped. It should not be too close to the surface of the casing or concentrated in one place for heating, otherwise it will cause uneven thickness or burn the casing.
What are the precautions?
1. The heat shrink tube should not be too close to the heating equipment. It is necessary to pay attention to the distance between the fire and the heat shrink tube, that is, 4~5cm evenly moved. When heating and shrinking, do not exceed the upper temperature limit of the heat shrink tube. For heat shrink tubes, if the temperature exceeds the upper temperature limit, our products will "melt" and return to the initial state.
2. Choose a suitable heating tool. When heating and baking, the outer flame of the flame is at a 45-degree angle to the surface of the heat shrink tube. Be sure to move back and forth to heat the heat shrink tube as a whole. It should be slowly from one end to the other. The heating should be uniform to avoid bubbles and ensure the appearance of the heat shrink tube after shrinking. After cooling, trim it.
3. When selecting the specifications of heat shrink tubing, you need to consider the shrinkage ratio of the heat shrink tubing and the outer diameter of the object being covered.
4. For straight objects such as wires, select heat shrink tubing with a slightly larger inner diameter; Busbar heat shrink tubing should be used for protection of busbars in power stations, electrical cabinets, etc.; Dual-wall heat shrink tubing with waterproof performance should be used for sealing requirements.
