Overhead Transmission Line Accident Injures Worker
Time: 2015-05-21 09:33:10     Copyfrom: volsun

Yesterday I wrote a post about an accident caused by overhead transmission line.

“In October 2014, a farm worker was critically injured when the auger boom on his tractor contacted overhead transmission line.

Zachary Short, 24 years old, grabbed a fire extinguisher and jumped over the trailer hitch on the tractor to respond to a fire started by the electrical arcing. He was thrown backward by the electrical force as he was trying to jump over the hitch, obviously making contact with some part of the trailer. A co-worker moved Short away from the grain cart using a plastic shovel.”

Why it always happened?

In my opinion, required for Proper Personal Protective Equipment is not enough, contractors should use insulation material for overhead line as another layer of protection. Silicone Rubber Overhead Line Cover is a good choice.

Then I got the first comment like below:

“This is not a situation where Personal Protective Equipment or a layer of rubber on the power line applies to personal safety. The incident occurred during harvesting a farm. The affected persons were farm workers and not a power line maintenance crew. The required protection here is proper training and awareness. Proper training would be in the safe operating of their equipment and awareness of the location of the power lines, the proximity to it that is deemed safe to operate a boom and also what to do in the event that a boom contact the power line (which definitely does not include the use of a Proper training would be in the safe operating of their equipment fire extinguisher to put out the blaze).”

He is right, farmer is not Lineman who has been trained. Proper training is a good choice, but not for everyone. As a farmer who only works around that overhead transmission line occasionally, maybe he ignores the importance of training. Or he just don’t know how he could apply for the training. Lineman has class, but he doesn’t.

Even after he is good trained, if he contact the overhead transmission line again when lack of attention, what will happen? He will still Injured. This happened frequently on lineman every year.

But what if the bare conductor was covered by Silicone Rubber Overhead Line Cover?

Withstand voltage up to 220KV, it can help to save life when you get contact with the conductor.

As it’s anti-aging, corrosion resistant, acid & basic retardant and high temp retardant, the silicone rubber overhead line cover can meet 22KV/mm for electrical strength test. Especially suitable for the protection of the bare wire of high voltage overhead line.

Hope our insulation cover can help to save life when this happen again.
